Let the celebrations begin!
April 28, 202270 Glorious Years
June 1, 2022In 2013 Vincent Hayes was presented with an MBE by Charles, then Prince of Wales, at Buckingham Palace in recognition of his services to British Music Hall and his contribution to the community, including the work of the Brick Lane Music Hall Charity.
Naturally, we did invite HRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall to the Music Hall and sent them our programme of upcoming shows for the year. We received a very nice letter in reply written by their Assistant Private Secretary, thanking us very much, and letting us know that he was able to answer seven out of the eight quiz questions below from our souvenir programme! He said he was ‘defeated’ by question 8.
1. Where was Mother Kelly’s doorstep?
2. Where did First World War soldiers see the roses shining?
3. In which city did Sweet Molly Malone ply her trade?
4. Which London Borough did Burlington Bertie come from?
5. Marie Ann was taking the train from London to Birmingham, where did she end up?
6. Where is there nothing else besides that I like to be beside?
7. We know how to spell his name, but where did Kelly (K-E double L-Y) come form?
8. Which London street is the place for fun and noise all among the girls and boys?
If they had needed a clue to answer Question 8 we could have said it was one of the most famous Music Hall songs of all time and the origin of the most iconic of all Music Hall refrains – ” ‘ave a banana!”
Next week’s shows are in celebration of the forthcoming coronation of their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, Queen Consort – in tribute to their many years of tireless public service.
PS! The answers to the quiz are: 1) Paradise Row 2) Picardy 3) Dublin 4) Bow 5) Crewe 6) the sea 7) the Isle of Man 8) The Strand!
